Pt. Tejendra is one of the best -known Sarod players of India. His performance sparkles with virtuosity as well as classicism. He represents the Senia-Maihar Gharana (traditional style) of Indian instrumental music. The most notable exponents of this style are Ustad Ali Akbar Khan and Pandit Ravi Shankar. Tejendra, with his own efforts, has synthesized a style of his own. He has received many honors & awards including President’s Gold medal.

Tejendra began to study quite early in his life. He has 18 years of intense study under Ustad Bahadur Khan and later under one of the legends of Indian Music – the world renowned Ustad Ali Akbar Khan.In India he is a regular artiste in the premiere concert circuit, while in Europe, Canada and in the United State, his popularity has ensured his regular representation in some of the most prestigious concerts

Subhajyoti Guha  a highly talented young Tabla player from India. He has performed in prestigious festivals of Indian music in India, Europe, Canada and in the USA as a soloist & as an accompanist.

Coming from an educated and musical family, Subhajyoti was introduced to tabla at an early age of five by his father Dr. Smriti Ranjan Guha, a disciple of late Ustad Keramatullah Khan of Farukkabad Gharana. Few years later the internationally well-known tabla maestro and trainer Pandit Sankha Chatterjee, also a disciple of late Ustad Keramatullah Khan and late Ustad Allarakha Khan of punjab Gharana, took Subhajyoti under his tutorship and Subhajyoti has been the disciple of pandit Chatterjee since then.

Pratichi is an Arts and Cultural Institution. The words "Arts" and "Cultural" is somewhat inter-related. Although both "Arts" and Culture" are included in our Mission Statement, our main emphasis is on Arts, i.e. promoting and developing Arts in the greater Kansas City area. Ourgoal is to integrate the Eastern (Asian) and the Western Arts, specially in the areas of Classical Music ( Instrumental ) and Dance. During the last few years, Pratichi is working hard towards this goal. We believe, achieving this goal will involve the following steps:

In Kansas, the Asian-Americans and Americans of other ethnic origin, are not very active in arts and related cultural activities, although there is a great demand for it. Pratichi’s goal is to meet this demand. Good Instrumental music and classical dances or ballet have no language barrier, and are liked by all. Therefore, integration of Eastern and Western arts in these areas is possible. Pratichi is committed to this goal.

During the last several years, Pratichi has organized several concerts and dance performances in the greater Kansas City area and has arranged workshops

  • To foster an understanding and appreciation of Indian and Asian Arts in the field of Music and Dance by the local community. Pratichi wants to achieve this goal by arranging musical concerts and dance performances by well-known performing artistes from our country or even from abroad (India or other Asian countries)
  • To arrange lecture demonstration and workshops by the performing artistes. This will allow active participation by the community members of diverse culture, background and origin.
  • Finally, to achieve the successful integration ( or creation of fusion) of Eastern and Western arts in the areas of music, dance and ballet. This step will be accomplished when the first two steps ( steps (a) and (b) above) are carried out successfully...
